QUT seeks to actively pursue new and diverse ways of creating, sharing, and valuing knowledge through the engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rich cultural capital, in all areas of the University’s operations.
QUT aims to increase the access, participation and successful outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff and students.
QUT seeks to be a leading institution through the full engagement with, and participation of, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and is committed to:
- the provision of outstanding learning environments and programs that lead to excellent outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander graduates, enabling them to work in and guide a diverse and complex world characterised by accelerating change
- high-impact research and development in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander selected areas, at the highest international standards, reinforcing our applied emphasis and securing significant commercial and practical benefits for the community and for our partners
- a university community that recognises the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples; actively participates and seeks opportunities to learn about and celebrate Australia’s rich Indigenous cultures; and collectively (and individually wherever possible) commits to taking action to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in their pursuit of improving their economic and social conditions
- strong and broad strategic partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander entities, professional and broader communities in reflection of our academic ambitions and our civic responsibility
- increasing employment rates and participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at all levels of the University.
This policy provides the foundations for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander priorities, and actions articulated within QUT’s Blueprint, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Action Plan, QUT Reconciliation Statement (A/8.3), and relevant teaching, learning, research, and employment policies, plans, and strategies. The annual report to Council on the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Action Plan will monitor progress on the implementation of this policy.
Indigenous Education, Research and Employment CommitteeThe Indigenous Education, Research and Employment Committee (IEREC) (A/8.2) is responsible for preparing, monitoring and reporting to the Vice-Chancellor and President on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education and employment issues at the University.
