4.1.1 Publication design, production and print buying

The University, through its Publications Unit produces high-quality publications in line with QUT's corporate identity, including

  • major corporate publications, eg QUT Handbook and QUT Annual Report
  • newsletters
  • brochures, from single page dodgers to major promotional publications
  • editing of text or the hiring of part-time writers for specific tasks
  • low run digital printing of promotional material
  • printing of budget documents and other reports.

Design, typesetting, production and print buying of all marketing and promotional material is carried out only through the Publications Unit. Low-run digital printing or photocopying of non-promotional material, where no design or typesetting is required, is handled directly through QUT Printing Services .

Educational print materials are produced through QUT Printing Services.

4.1.2 Editorial quality

The public's image of QUT is strongly affected by the editorial quality of material disseminated in the name of the University and high editorial standards of readability, accuracy and consistency are essential to promote QUT as a quality institution.

All QUT promotional material or publications for sale outside the University should be edited and proofed by a person with relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience, who is not the same person responsible for writing the publication.

4.1.3 Corporate publications

QUT Handbook

The Student Business Services Department is responsible for the content of the QUT Handbook which is regarded as the University's official publication of its governing structure and authority. The QUT Handbook includes

  • QUT's history, vision and organisational structure
  • principal dates, policy, rules and regulations relating to student matters
  • Council and committee details
  • senior staff list
  • academic and student support services
  • fees and administration charges
  • course structures and requirements
  • unit synopses.

The QUT Handbook is available on the internet via the QUT home page ( http://www.handbook.qut.edu.au ).

QUT Annual Report

The Marketing and Communication Department produces the QUT Annual Report, which gives an overview of QUT and its operation for the calendar year. The Annual Report satisfies statutory requirements and provides details of the University's financial performance and audited accounts.
