1.7.1 Purpose

Information Technology governance is implemented through the Information Technology Governance Framework (QUT staff access only). The Information Technology Governance Framework establishes a clear and consistent QUT-wide approach to enable, direct and govern the investment of university funds for information technology projects and support and maintenance activities.

The Information Technology Governance Committee advises the Vice-Chancellor and President on QUT’s current and future information technology environment by establishing and monitoring strategy, budget, and the Information Technology Governance Framework.

1.7.2 Accountability

Information Technology Governance Committee is a management committee accountable to the Vice-Chancellor and President.

1.7.3 Responsibilities

Information Technology Governance Committee has two sub-committees to assist in fulfilling direct decision-making roles within the governance framework:

  • Initiative Approval Committee
  • Committee for Architecture Review

 The Committee undertakes the following responsibilities:

  • advises the Vice-Chancellor and President on strategic issues relating to information technology
  • monitors ongoing development and execution of the QUT Digital Strategy
  • advises the Vice-Chancellor and President on policy, procedure and principles relating to information technology and information management at QUT
  • reviews and provides advice on the annual preparation and distribution of the Asset Management Plan Information Technology (AMP (IT)) budget
  • monitors the governance of QUT's current information technology environment and information technology project portfolio
  • reviews and endorses exceptions and revisions to the Information Technology Governance Framework.

1.7.4 Membership

  • Vice-President (Technology) and Chief Information Officer ex officio as Chair
  • Vice-President (Administration) and Registrar ex officio
  • Vice-President (Resources) and Chief Financial Officer ex officio
  • One executive dean or head of school nominated by Vice-Chancellor's Advisory Committee
  • One representative of the Service and Project Management Office nominated by the Vice-President (Technology) and Chief Information Officer
  • Chair of the Initiative Approval Committee ex officio
  • Two deputy chairs of the Initiative Approval Committee ex officio
  • Chair of the Committee for Architecture Review ex officio

1.7.5 Meeting frequency

Information Technology Governance Committee meets at least four times per year or as required.

Information Technology Governance Committee reports to the Vice-Chancellor and President.

Information Technology Governance Committee operates in accordance with Council Procedure 1 - Committees.

A nominee of the Vice-President (Administration) and Registrar is secretary, on recommendation of the Vice-President (Technology) and Chief Information Officer.
