Student Financial Assistance Scheme Committee is a Vice-Chancellor's committee established in accordance with Council Procedure 1 - Committees . Student Financial Assistance Scheme Committee is accountable to the Registrar for fulfilling the following terms of reference.

Terms of reference

Student Financial Assistance Scheme Committee:

  • examines, organises and offers comment as appropriate in respect of any facet of the day to day operation of the Student Financial Assistance Scheme (see E/7.3.2 );
  • on delegated authority of the Vice-Chancellor and subject to fund availability, makes loans to students experiencing financial hardship, ratifies Counsellor loans, approves extensions to loans, determines interest rates and imposes penalties;
  • makes recommendations to the Registrar on all matters of policy relating to the scheme;
  • makes recommendation to the Director, Corporate Finance, that loans identified as non-recoverable be written-off;
  • considers loan applications that fall outside the SFAS Loan categories and criteria in exceptional circumstances.

Membership

  • Director, Student Support Services or nominee as Chair
  • Head, Counselling Services or nominee
  • Welfare Officer, Counselling Services
  • Director, Corporate Finance or nominee
  • Head, International Student Services or nominee
  • Welfare Officer, International Student Services
  • One counsellor / loan advisor from Counselling Services

A nominee of the Registrar is secretary, usually from the Corporate Finance Department.

Tenure and frequency of meeting

Terms of office are as detailed in section 3 of Council Procedure 1 - Committees.

Student Financial Assistance Scheme Committee meets fortnightly, or as required.

Reporting

Student Financial Assistance Scheme Committee reports to the Registrar, at least annually.
