3.1.1 QUT Student Guild

The QUT Student Guild is established under the Queensland University of Technology Act 1998 .

The Guild's stated aims are to

  • involve members in the full richness of the activities associated with campus life
  • provide the highest possible standard of services and facilities to members
  • represent the interests of members on QUT boards and committees.

Subject to QUT Council's overriding responsibility for the management and welfare of the University, the QUT Student Guild is owned and operated by and for students. It is a body corporate with a common seal and is capable of suing and being sued. The Guild is governed by its own Constitution which is approved by QUT Council. The Guild is required to provide an annual report on its activities and financial position to the QUT Student Guild Council and to QUT Council.

3.1.2 QUT Student Guild Council

The QUT Student Guild Council, which is the Guild's governing body, comprises

  • Executive members, ie
    • Student Guild President
    • General Secretary
    • Directors ex officio in the areas of Academic Rights, Disability, Indigenous Students, International Students, Sports and Recreation, Welfare, Women's Services, an Environment Convenor, and co-directors Queer Services
  • Clubs and Societies Convenor
  • Faculty representatives
  • Specialist representatives for
    • mature age students
    • part-time and external students
    • postgraduate students.

Elections for both representative and executive positions are held annually. Executive members are employed part-time by the QUT Student Guild and are responsible to the QUT Student Guild Council for the day to day management of the Guild.
