QUT monitors unit completion to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of teaching activity.

Unit completion is measured by an index which illustrates the extent to which students successfully completed a unit attempted for the year in question.

The Planning Section of the Division of Finance and Resource Planning compiles unit completion statistics in July of each year (for the previous year). The statistics are reported annually to faculty academic boards and faculty advisory committees. Academic boards are expected to examine low completion rates identified in exception reports, and to take steps to enhance completion where necessary.

It is recognised that there will be significant variations in unit completion rates across disciplines. Therefore, schools are responsible for establishing discipline benchmarks to assist the process of monitoring unit completion rates.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor is responsible for monitoring unit completion data in liaison with the Planning Section, advising University Academic Board as necessary.
