QUT monitors progression and attrition in courses as part of ongoing course development and review.

Progression is measured by an index which presents actual progress of students as a ratio of standard progress in a course. Along with graduation and attrition statistics, the index assists QUT in monitoring student progress through a course.

Attrition statistics are based on enrolment at 31 March in the previous year compared with enrolment at 31 March of the current year.

Progression and attrition statistics are reported annually to faculty academic boards and to faculty advisory committees. These statistics also are included in course development submissions to University Academic Board.

The Planning Section of the Division of Finance and Resource Planning compiles progression and attrition statistics in April-May of each year (for the previous year). Statistics are forwarded to faculty academic boards. Academic boards are expected to take steps to reduce attrition and/or enhance progression where necessary. Statistics are also forwarded to University Academic Board for noting.
