4.11.1 New Professors Scheme grant
As an initiative of the Vice-Chancellor, new professors in the University are eligible for a one-off grant of $25 000 which may be used for a specific project or projects within the University. Amounts in excess of this may be authorised under exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the Vice-Chancellor.

4.11.2 Eligibility
Staff appointed to the level of professor in the University, and who have not previously held this position at the University, are eligible to receive a New Professors Scheme grant. Appointment may be as a result of a recruitment process, a promotion process or an appointment by invitation.

4.11.3 Grant expenditure
Expenditure of the grant must be seen to benefit the grant recipient's professional development and the faculty/ institute to which the recipient belongs. A brief project proposal submitted through the relevant executive dean/ executive director must be approved by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) before grant funds can be expended. Examples for which the grant may be used include purchase of equipment, or hiring of staff to facilitate the project.
