The following procedures will apply where a senior staff member does not seek renewal of a fixed-term appointment or where the University does not renew a senior staff member's fixed-term appointment and where the position is to be filled:

(a) For the Vice-Chancellor or Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the position will be advertised externally and approved procedures for selection and recruitment will apply (see sections B/4.1-B/4.5 ).

(b) In other cases, with the exception of Head of School or equivalent (eg. Law faculty) positions, the Vice-Chancellor will advertise the position externally. Approved procedures for selection and recruitment will apply. (see sections B/4.1-B/4.5 )

(c) In the case of Head of School or equivalent (eg. Law faculty) positions, the Vice-Chancellor will decide whether the position should be advertised internally or externally, taking account of the levels of existing staff and likely future growth of the relevant School.

If the Vice-Chancellor decides to advertise a Head of School position internally a selection panel with the following membership will make a recommendation to the Vice-Chancellor:

  • A Council member nominated by Council as Chair;
  • Vice-Chancellor or nominee;
  • Executive dean of the relevant faculty;
  • A head of school or equivalent (eg. Law faculty), elected by and from the heads of school (or equivalent) in the faculty;
  • An academic staff member, elected by and from staff in the school.
