1.1.1 Employment categories

There are three broad categories of QUT staff:

  • Academic staff, which includes research only academic staff;
  • Professional staff, which includes
    • Administrative and clerical staff
    • Professional and technical staff
    • Trades and support staff
    • Research only professional staff; and
  • Senior staff, comprising all positions classified Senior Staff Group 1 to Senior Staff Group 7 (SSG1 to SSG7). For the purposes of Council elections, heads of school, executive deans of faculty, directors of institutes, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Commercialisation), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Teaching Quality) and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) are deemed to be members of the academic staff.

1.1.2 Enterprise Agreements

QUT staff will be employed under one of three enterprise agreements:

Each enterprise agreement contains the current conditions of employment for those staff covered by the agreement. Persons appointed to honorary and visiting appointments are excluded from the provisions of enterprise agreements

1.1.3 Relevant legislation

There are a number of State and Commonwealth Acts of Parliament which impact upon the employment of staff at QUT. These include:

  • Workplace Relations Act 1996 (Cwth)
  • Workers' Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 (Qld)
  • Sex Discrimination Act 1984 (Cwth)
  • Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Act 1986 (Cwth)
  • Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld)
  • Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cwth)
  • Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cwth)

Other relevant Acts are referenced throughout MOPP Chapter B as they pertain to each policy matter.
