1. Short Title

This Statute may be cited as the Course of Study Statute 1999.

2. Commencement

This Statute commences on the commencement of section 56 of the Queensland University of Technology Act 1998.

3. Definition

In this Statute, " Registrar " means the University's Chief Administrative Officer.

4. Application

(1) This Statute applies to all QUT students.

(2) This Statute should be read in conjunction with the Fees Statute and any rules made pursuant to it.

5. Course of Study

(1) Council may make rules about or approve policies and procedures related to -

  1. admission;
  2. enrolment;
  3. courses of study;
  4. transfers of credit;
  5. academic progress;
  6. assessment;
  7. granting degrees and awards;
  8. granting of Honorary degrees;
  9. granting scholarships, fellowships, prizes and similar awards;
  10. sanctions on students who fail to meet their obligations;
  11. requirements of courses;
  12. revocation of degrees;
  13. appeals against any of these matters.

(2) The Registrar or nominee is responsible for the administration of the rules relating to these matters.

(3) Where an issue of interpretation arises, the Registrar will favour an interpretation which is within the spirit of this Statute, and is just and fair in all the circumstances.

(4) Council is required to make and maintain rules concerning transitional arrangements for students, where the rules relating to their course of study are amended or rescinded.

6. Honorary Degrees

(1) Council may honour any person who has, in its opinion, rendered distinguished service to the community or to QUT or to scholarship, by admitting that person to any degree of the University.

(2) Council may award an honorary degree by resolution requiring a majority of all the members of Council.

(3) Where in the opinion of Council, a recipient of an honorary degree has acted in such a manner as to bring disrepute to the University's name, Council may revoke the grant of the honorary degree.
