1. Short Title

This statute may be cited as the Queensland University of Technology (Making and Notifying University Rules) Statute 2009.

2. Definitions

In this university statute –

“registrar” means the university’s chief administrative officer.

“the Act” means the Queensland University of Technology Act 1998.

3. Procedure for making, amending or repealing university rules

(1) A university rule is made by a resolution passed at a meeting of the council properly constituted under section 17 of the Act.

(2) A university rule may be amended or repealed by a resolution passed at a meeting of the council properly constituted under section 17 of the Act.

4. Notification procedure

(1) The registrar notifies the making, amendment or repeal of a university rule by sending a message to the electronic mailing address of all employees and enrolled students of the university.

(2) A university rule takes effect on the day of its notification or, if a later day or time is fixed in the rule, on the day or at the time fixed.

(3) For the purpose of section 59(4) of the Act, a copy of the university rule as made or amended is made available by publication on the university website.

(4) In this section, “electronic mailing address” means –

(a) in the case of enrolled students, the electronic mailing address nominated by a student and used by the university for official communications; and

(b) in the case of employees, the electronic mailing address provided to the employee by the university to undertake the employee’s functions and activities.

5.Repeal

The Queensland University of Technology Statute No 6 (Rules) 1999 is repealed.
